Georges, who hosts a TV literary review, receives packages containing videos of himself with his family -- shot secretly from the street -- and alarming drawings whose meaning is obscure. He has no idea who may be sending them. Gradually, the footage on the tapes becomes more personal, suggesting that the sender has known Georges for some time. Georges feels a sense of menace hanging over him and his family but, as no direct threat has been made, the police refuse to help...


am i right?, 4 November 2005 Author: kidsolo from Italy 2comments only 1.(maybe) the most shocking gore scene in cinema history 2.this is an author film.all authors are distinguished by something,a personal touch in their films that make them so unique.haneke writes and directs his films.haneke is a director. so ,his priority is the scene ,the set,the acting, THE CAMERA,the story has a secondary role in a directors eye when the story is his own,there are no restrictions no maybe thats why the story ends with so many questions.i don't think that even haneke has the answers just because thats the key of his success.we audience are concentrated to the story when somebody behind the camera is joking with us thinking completely different things.we pay the ticket for the story complete ,a happy or a bitter end and he gives us suppositions.the film becomes an infinite rebus for us when he enjoys the perfection of his art...gentlemen haneke is challenging his audience during all this film,he tries to make us hate it but we end up to fell in love with it.he rather works with our psychology than his film characters one.he provokes he deceives he shocks he irritates he disturbs us he collide us but still he interacts with us and this is a hell of experience to live in a theater watching just...a movie. my motivation for all this comment?take funny games and cache,what does these 2 films have in common in substance?THE CAMERA or the video if you like is the only element that make both stories absurd.the re-wind of the cathartic scene in funny games and the mysterious tape-terrorist in cache.THE CAMERA is hanekes deus ex machina with a leading role in both films.I'm convinced that this "dark force" is a poetic license .a good authors personal ingredient to leave at the same time his genuine signature and most of all to remind us the power of the camera and the magic of the 7th art...and perhaps not to take things so seriously ,besides its only a movie. cheers!
